Peripheral Angiography is a procedure used to diagnose and treat blockages of arteries other than heart arteries. This can include arteries in the neck, the arms, the abdomen, the kidneys, and the legs. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia (meaning lidocaine, much like at the dentist's office). It involves the placement of a small tube, called a sheath, into a major artery in the body, most commonly in the groin. Specially shaped tubes (catheters) are passed through this and a small amount of dye is injected under X-ray guidance to diagnose blockages.

Often, if blockages are diagnosed, they can be fixed with a balloon or a stent. This procedure is usually performed as an outpatient, meaning you can usually go home the same day or the next morning.
