Porcelain Veneers in Beverly Hills, CA
Porcelain veneers, refer to thin layers of medical-grade ceramic that are custom-made to bond to the front surfaces of damaged or discolored teeth to alter their shape, size, color, and position.
These dental restorative shells are fabricated from a special material that closely resembles that of natural tooth enamel. The life-like appearance makes porcelain veneers a popular cosmetic dental restoration solution to improve your smile.
Veneers are commonly used to fix:
- Worn down teeth
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Uneven, misaligned, or irregularly shaped teeth
- Spaced between teeth
- Tooth discoloration due to excessive fluoride, medications, resin fillings, or endodontic treatment

The Veneer Placement Process
Getting your porcelain veneers requires three visits to the dentist as follows:
First visit: Diagnosis and treatment planning
Once you make the decision to improve your smile, you should consult with your dentist to find the most appropriate treatments for your specific case. If you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, the dentist will review your medical history and examine your teeth to ensure there’s enough tooth structure to attach the veneers. X-rays may be required. After this consultation, you should make an appointment to initiate the treatment.
Second visit: Teeth Preparation
On your second visit, the dentist will prepare your teeth by removing 0.5 mm of enamel from the front surface. This is about the same thickness as your veneers. A local anesthetic may be used to numb the area. Next, your dentist will take an impression – model – of your teeth and send it to the lab for fabrication.
In the lab, a porcelain powder that corresponds to your tooth color is mixed with water and placed in an oven for “firing.” Additional porcelain layers are built up to create the natural translucency of tooth enamel. This process takes 2-4 weeks. If your teeth are sensitive, temporary dental veneers may be placed so you can eat comfortably.
Third visit: Bonding
The veneers will be placed against your teeth and trimmed to ensure a proper fit. This will be done several times, after which your tooth will be cleaned and etched to prepare it for bonding. A special cement will then be applied to the veneer and positioned on your tooth. A special light is used to activate the chemicals in the cement to promote quick bonding. Finally, excess cement will be wiped off, and final adjustment made to your bite. A follow-up visit is recommended within a month.
Advantages of porcelain veneers
- Porcelain veneers allow you to alter the shape, size, color, and position of teeth by extracting a minimal amount of enamel from the tooth surface – about 0.5mm – to create room to attach the layers.
- Veneers are a more conservative restoration option compared to crowns or bridges that require the removal of a considerable amount of tooth structure.
- You can easily find a shade of porcelain that closely corresponds to the color of your natural teeth for life-like dental restoration. You can choose to brighten your smile by choosing a whiter shade, with a different value of chroma.
- Your porcelain veneers are stain-resistant. This means that you can enjoy your wine, coffee, or tea without fear of damaging your dental restoration. That said, if your natural teeth were previously more susceptible to staining, you should avoid or minimize anything that could stain natural teeth, and exercise proper dental hygiene.
- You can maintain your restored teeth as usual, with regular brushing and flossing, regular dental checkups, and reducing your consumption of sugary and acidic foods and drinks. Good dental care, including chewing sugarless gum to increase saliva production and drinking water after meals to rinse your mouth, will prolong the life of your porcelain veneers.
- Porcelain veneers can last between 7 and 20 years. Although the material itself is dead, the underlying tooth and surrounding gum and hard tissue is alive and changing. Gum line shrinkage, for instance, may reveal your tooth root, affecting the look of your smile.
- Any damage to the veneers, such as chips or breakage, can be rebonded or replaced – prolonging the life of your restoration.
Significantly Enhance Your Smile With Veneers!
Who is the right candidate for porcelain veneers?
Before your dentist can recommend porcelain veneers to restore your smile, you must fulfill the following conditions:
- Your teeth must not be severely crooked or misaligned – Veneers can only be used to correct slight misalignments
- Your teeth must have sufficient tooth structures – This will allow for the removal of some of the enamel to create room to bond the veneers properly to the underlying tooth
- You should have symmetrical gum contours to allow for the proper “framing” of your teeth. This is necessary to attain a beautiful cosmetic result.
People with poor teeth shape or contours, severe tooth discoloration, small to medium gaps between teeth, and minor bite and tooth position imperfections can benefit from the placement of veneers. Even patients with worn teeth, due to grinding and clenching, can witness a dramatic improvement in their smile with porcelain veneers.
Cases involving large discrepancies in tooth position, severely misaligned bite, or even poor profile cannot be corrected with cosmetic porcelain veneers alone. In most cases, you will need a functional dental restoration first – such as orthodontics – before you can consider veneers to further improve your smile.
