The Veneer Placement Process

Getting your porcelain veneers requires three visits to the dentist as follows:

First visit: Diagnosis and treatment planning

Once you make the decision to improve your smile, you should consult with your dentist to find the most appropriate treatments for your specific case. If you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers, the dentist will review your medical history and examine your teeth to ensure there’s enough tooth structure to attach the veneers. X-rays may be required. After this consultation, you should make an appointment to initiate the treatment.

Second visit: Teeth Preparation

On your second visit, the dentist will prepare your teeth by removing 0.5 mm of enamel from the front surface. This is about the same thickness as your veneers. A local anesthetic may be used to numb the area. Next, your dentist will take an impression – model – of your teeth and send it to the lab for fabrication.
