Veneers Q & A
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers, also called porcelain veneers or laminates, are thin pieces of porcelain that are shaped like teeth and permanently cemented to the front surface of your teeth.
Porcelain veneers are tooth-colored, virtually stain-resistant, and can be treated like your original teeth, so you can brush, floss, and continue your oral hygiene routine as usual.
Why do people get dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a purely aesthetic option for people who don’t like the look of their top teeth when they smile.
The most common reasons patients opt for veneers are to cover misshapen or misaligned teeth, chipped teeth, teeth with severe staining, teeth with large gaps, or other physical attributes that may make you feel uncomfortable when smiling. Veneers are also a good option if you’ve experienced enamel erosion.
What is involved in getting dental veneers?
Before you can proceed with veneers, you first meet with Dr. Chao to discuss your desired outcome and have a full evaluation of your teeth to determine if veneers are right for you. If you have significant tooth decay or gum disease, you may not be a good candidate for veneers.
If you’re given the go-ahead for veneers, Dr. Chao removes about one half-millimeter of enamel off the front surface of your teeth. This is necessary for the veneers to fit on your teeth. She then takes an impression of your teeth to send to a lab to create your veneers.
When the veneers are ready -- usually in less than two weeks -- you return to the office to have them placed on your teeth. Your teeth are cleaned, polished, and etched to create the right surface for the bonding process.
Dr. Chao then adheres the veneers to your teeth with a special cement. She uses a light beam on each tooth which chemically reacts with the cement to create a harder bond.
Dr. Chao makes the experience of getting veneers fast and painless, leaving you with a smile you can feel confident about. Call or book an appointment online to learn more.Request Appointment
